OWI

Over 100 Years of Collective Experience On Your Side.

Individuals who are arrested for first-time drunk driving offenses with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.17% or higher will face operating while intoxicated (OWI) charges (also sometimes referred to as “super drunk driving”). This is considered a high BAC offense and carries harsh penalties, including jail time, fines, driver’s license restriction, mandatory community service and more.

At Grewal Law PLLC, we have helped many people navigate the legal process after being arrested for OWI in Michigan. Our OWI super drunk defense lawyers understand exactly what is at stake, which is why we work quickly and efficiently to build a strong case on your behalf. We conduct thorough investigations to determine if your rights were violated or if the results of your breathalyzer test are inaccurate or invalid.

Penalties for OWI / Super Drunk Driving in Michigan

As previously mentioned, the penalties for OWI or super drunk driving in Michigan are very serious. The state takes a harsh stance on all drunk driving cases but is particularly strict when it comes to high BAC offenses.

If you are convicted of first-offense OWI, you will face the following penalties:

  • Fines ranging from $200 to $700
  • Up to 180 days in jail
  • Mandatory 360 hours of community service
  • Driver’s license suspension for up to 1 year
  • 6 points on your driver’s license

Additionally, if you are eligible for a restricted driver’s license after 45 days, you will need to have an ignition interlock device installed on your vehicle. You will face mandatory vehicle immobilization if you are found to be operating your vehicle with a restricted license without the ignition interlock device.

If this is your second or third arrest for OWI or super drunk driving, you will be facing even harsher penalties. The same is true if there was a minor in your vehicle at the time of your arrest.

Trust Our Legal Team to Fight for You

If you are convicted for OWI, the consequences are severe. The penalties are designed to be a deterrent to driving under the influence of alcohol. If you are charged with an OWI, you will have had a high BAC present in your system when tested by law enforcement. Therefore, it is essential to have an experienced attorney on your side to defend your case.

At Grewal Law PLLC, we look at every factor involved in your arrest in order to determine if any mistakes were made or if your rights were violated. We examine all the evidence brought forth by the prosecution to craft a defense that will help you avoid harsh penalties.
