The first AppleTree location opened in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1998 and has branched out to additional facilities in West Michigan after a 2012 partnership forming “Appletree and Gilden Woods Early Care and Preschool.” The group currently operates 23 schools throughout Michigan in the Grand Rapids, Holland, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and Metro Detroit areas, claiming to have cared for over 20,000 children during the past decade.

Long Term Effects of Physical Assaults on Children

Abuse and neglect have lasting effects on children. The World Health Organization reports that nearly 3 in 4 children aged 2-4 years regularly suffer physical punishment and/or psychological violence at the hands of caregivers, which can lead to serious physical, emotional, and psychological consequences. Similarly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that children who experience violence have higher risks for health and social problems, including subsequent mental health issues, substance misuse, and increased likelihood of perpetrating violence.
