Preparing for Your DAAD / DLAD Hearing

Over 100 Years of Collective Experience On Your Side.

Michigan DAAD / DLAD Hearing Lawyer

Having your driver’s license reinstated in Michigan requires you to have a hearing scheduled with the Secretary of State’s Driver Assessment and Appeal Division (DAAD) formerly known as a DLAD (Driver Assessment and License Appeal Office).

Depending on the circumstances surrounding the suspension or revocation of your license, you will need to provide different evidence to support your case. For instance, as a person with alcohol- or drug-related charges such as a DUI (driving under the influence) or an OWI (operating while intoxicated) you will need to show evidence you are sober and do not pose a risk to the public while on the road.

Our Michigan criminal defense attorneys at Grewal Law PLLC will help you through the entire DAAD/DLAD hearing process. From requesting a hearing to gathering evidence and documentation through representing you at the actual hearing, we will be with you through every step.

The Process of a DAAD/DLAD Hearing

In order to have a DAAD or DLAD hearing set you must first fill out a form requesting a hearing at one of the Secretary of State’s locations that handle these requests. Once your hearing is scheduled, it is your job to convince the examiner who will be conducting the hearing that you are sober and are ready to get back behind the wheel.

The assumption of the examiner will be you have a drug or alcohol problem if you lost your license due to a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) or OWI (Operating While Intoxicated). We will work with you to build your case to show you have overcome your issues related to drug and alcohol abuse and will prove you are not a threat to the public when driving.

It is imperative to build a solid case before going to the hearing because you are only allowed one per year. If your case does not successful prove you are ready to drive again, you will have to wait 12 months before having another one scheduled.

Our experienced team at Grewal Law PLLC is ready to help you make your case. We will collect the evidence need to show the examiner that your drug or alcohol abuse is under control and that you are not at risk of a relapse. The evidence must show you have complete abstinence from using these substances under rules outlined by the Secretary of State’s office.

From gathering letters from your family and friends to working with your alcohol or drug abuse counselor, we will showcase you are sober and are ready to drive again. We will also work to avoid common license restoration mistakes.

By making sure you have a proper 10-Panel Drug Screen along with an up-to-date substance abuse evaluation we will have you prepared to appear at your hearing. Throughout the entire process, we will conduct an in-depth analysis to make sure you are successful in getting your license back.
