LG Electronics Recalling 98,000 Dehumidifiers Due to Fire Hazard

David Mittleman

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning consumers to discontinue use of all Goldstar and Comfort-Aire portable dehumidifiers due to a fire hazard. The commission announced the recall today of 98,000 dehumidifiers that were made in China by LG Electronics.

According to the commission, the dehumidifiers have power connectors that can short circuit, posing a fire risk. So far, the company has received four reports of fires started by the dehumidifiers, one of which caused significant damage to a home. However, no injuries were reported.

The specific brands and model numbers of affected dehumidifiers include the Goldstar model no. GHD30Y7, which were sold at Home Depot stores, Goldstar model no. DH305Y7, sold at Wal-Mart stores, and Comfort-Aire BHD-301-C dehumidifiers sold at Heat Controller Inc. Consumers should immediately stop using the suspected dehumidifier and contact LG at 1-877-220-0479 to determine if it is included in the recall.
