Dr. David “Davey” Turok, DDS of Chicago is a finalist in the Pepsi Refresh Challenge and is one step closer to realizing his dream of creating a mobile dental van to help underprivileged children to get the dental care, supplies, and education that they need. According to Dr. Turok’s vision, the “DDS Mobile Dental Van: The Plaque Punisher” would travel to various underserved areas and schools of the country, providing the dentistry that many of these children cannot afford. In addition, the focus would also be on education: both for children and adults and the mobile dental team would hand out teeth care supplies. Overall, the mobile dental would be comprised of a team of dental professional volunteers, including dentists, hygienists and assistants.

If he wins, he would receive $250,000 to pay for the van, dental equipment (chairs, dental units, etc.) , dental instruments, a portable x-ray machine, sterilization units, generators, charts and paperwork, and a wheelchair accessible chairlift. None of the dental professionals would receive a salary from the award money; instead the work would be entirely voluntary.
