Rear-End Collision on Holt Road Sends 1-year-old to Sparrow Hospital

A rear-end collision on Holt Road sent a 1-year-old boy to Sparrow Hospital with injuries on Tuesday morning, May 24, 2011. The rear-end accident took place around 6:30 a.m. as the mother of the 1-year-old was attempting to turn left from Holt Road onto Onondaga Road. The vehicle she was driving was struck from behind by a truck.

The child’s mother received minor injuries and the man driving the truck was not injured. The child was fortunately restrained in a child seat, hopefully minimizing any injury.

In Michigan, when traveling behind a vehicle it is our responsibility to maintain an assured clear distance behind that vehicle, so that in the event the vehicle comes to a stop or slows down to make a turn, we have enough time to react appropriately and come to a safe stop as well. Especially as we approach the busy holiday weekend when many Michiganders will be traveling by car, it would benefit everyone to give yourself some extra distance just to be safe.
