Authorities Looking for Driver of Hit-and-Run Minivan that Killed Cyclist

The Monroe County Sherriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police continue to search for the driver of a white Chevrolet Ventura minivan involved in an auto accident Sunday afternoon. Officials believe the driver of that vehicle is responsible for fatally striking a 51-year-old bicyclist in Monroe in the hit-and-run crash

The victim, Anthony Stemen, was pronounced dead at the hospital. He had been riding an adult, three-wheeled bicycle Sunday afternoon around 1:12 p.m. on North Monroe Street in Frenchtown Township. Officials believe he was traveling northbound when he was struck from behind by the vehicle, which then fled the scene. Authorities have been able to identify the make and model of the vehicle by parts left at the scene of the crash. The vehicle sustained front end damage and is missing its front grille.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about this vehicle or its driver to contact the Monroe County Central Dispatch at 734-243-7070 or Deputy Tim George at 734-240-7768.
