Understanding Self-Defense
Under Michigan law, self-defense is defined as the use of deadly force by an individual not engaged in commission of crime. The person who engages in the activity may use deadly force against another individual with no duty to retreat if one of the following circumstances apply:
- The person believes the use of deadly force must be used to prevent the imminent death or imminent bodily harm to him or herself or to another person.
- The person believes the use of deadly force must be used to prevent the imminent sexual assault of him or herself or to another person.
The use of any other force, other than deadly force, may be used to protect a person in the circumstances outlined above.
You are within your legal right to protect yourself or another individual in the conditions outlined above. As your Michigan defense attorney, we will provide you with the defense you need to protect yourself against a wrongful conviction.
