Abbott FreeStyle Libre Sensor Lawsuits
Investigating Claims Involving Faulty Glucose Monitor Sensors
Grewal Law PLLC is investigating potential claims involving certain Abbott FreeStyle Libre 3 and FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensors that may provide inaccurate glucose readings. The issue has raised serious safety concerns because users may rely on those readings to make insulin and other treatment decisions, potentially putting themselves at risk of severe complications.
For people living with diabetes, a continuous glucose monitor is not a minor convenience. It is a device used to guide daily health decisions, sometimes hour by hour. When a sensor gives readings that are lower than a person’s actual glucose level, the consequences can be dangerous. Users may delay treatment, make the wrong corrective decisions, or fail to recognize a developing medical emergency until serious harm has already occurred.
If you or your loved one suffered a serious diabetic event while using an affected Abbott sensor, our team can review the facts and discuss whether you may have grounds to pursue compensation.

Serious Health Risks Linked to Recalled Abbott Glucose Monitor Sensors
Certain Abbott FreeStyle Libre 3 and FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensors have been linked to dangerous glucose-monitoring errors that can put users at risk of severe diabetic complications.
According to Abbott and the FDA, some sensors may display glucose readings that are lower than a user’s actual blood glucose level, which can lead people to make the wrong treatment decisions. The FDA has classified the action as a Class I recall, the agency’s most serious type of recall, and says the devices may cause serious injury or death if they continue to be used.
Affected devices include:
- FreeStyle Libre 3 Sensor
- Model Numbers: 72081-01, 72080-01
- Unique Device Identifiers (UDI-DI): 00357599818005, 00357599819002
- FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus Sensor
- Model Numbers: 78768-01, 78769-01
- Unique Device Identifiers (UDI-DI): 00357599844011, 00357599843014
Abbott initially announced the device correction in November 2025 after internal testing found that certain sensors could provide incorrect low readings. The FDA first communicated the issue in an Early Alert in December 2025 and later updated the recall notice in February 2026 with additional adverse-event information and a clarified list of affected lots. As of January 2026, Abbott had reported 860 serious injuries and 7 deaths associated with the problem.
When a continuous glucose monitor reports glucose as lower than it really is, users may respond in ways that create immediate danger. Reported and potential consequences can include:
- Delayed insulin use or skipped insulin doses
- Sustained hyperglycemia
- Diabetic ketoacidosis
- Emergency treatment or hospitalization
- Loss of consciousness, coma, or other acute diabetic complications
- Death in the most serious cases
Do I Have An Abbott FreeStyle Libre Claim?
You may have a case worth reviewing if:
- You used a FreeStyle Libre 3 or FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor
- The sensor gave readings that did not match your symptoms, meter results, or later medical findings
- You suffered a serious diabetic event while relying on the sensor’s readings
- You were hospitalized for complications such as diabetic ketoacidosis, severe glucose instability, or related medical problems
- Your loved one died after a sensor-related glucose management failure
- You still have documentation showing the sensor serial number, packaging, app history, medical treatment, or communications with Abbott
Not every inaccurate reading will lead to a lawsuit. The key questions are whether you used an affected sensor, whether the reading problem can be documented, and whether it contributed to a serious injury, hospitalization, or death.
Our attorneys at Grewal Law PLLC can review your circumstances and whether you have grounds to pursue a case during a consultation.

Legal Issues That May Be Under Investigation
Abbott sensor cases may involve product liability allegations such as:
- Manufacturing defect – whether a production problem caused certain sensors to provide inaccurate readings
- Failure to warn – whether users and providers were adequately warned about the risks once the issue was known
- Negligence – whether the product was manufactured, monitored, or handled in a way that exposed patients to avoidable danger
- Post-sale duty issues – whether the manufacturer acted quickly and effectively enough once serious risks became apparent
Compensation In Abbott FreeStyle Libre Lawsuits
If a claim is viable, compensation may include damages for:
- Emergency and follow-up medical care
- Hospital bills and other treatment costs
- Lost income and reduced earning capacity
- Pain and suffering
- Long-term complications or disability
- Wrongful death damages for surviving family members, where applicable
The value of a case depends on the harm it caused. Cases involving hospitalization, diabetic ketoacidosis, lasting complications, permanent injury, or death are generally far more serious than claims involving a temporary issue with no lasting consequences.
