GLP-1 Vision Loss Lawsuits

Investigating Claims Involving Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus, and Sudden Vision Loss

Grewal Law PLLC is investigating potential claims involving Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus, and other GLP-1 drugs after reports and litigation linked semaglutide to non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), a serious eye condition that can cause sudden and sometimes permanent vision loss.

Lawsuits now pending around the country allege that patients developed severe vision problems after using these medications and were not adequately warned about the risk.

If you or your loved one developed serious vision problems after using a GLP-1 drug, our attorneys can review the facts and discuss whether you may have grounds to pursue a claim.

Serious Vision Risks Alleged in GLP-1 Drug Litigation

GLP-1 vision loss lawsuits focus on reports that certain semaglutide medications may be associated with NAION, a rare optic nerve condition linked to sudden vision loss that may be permanent. Plaintiffs allege they used GLP-1 medications and later suffered serious eye injuries without receiving adequate warning about the risk.

This issue has drawn growing attention from regulators, researchers, and courts. In June 2025, for example, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) concluded that NAION is a very rare side effect of semaglutide and recommended updating product information for Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus. A later study of U.S. veterans published in February 2026 in JAMA Ophthalmology reported a roughly 2-fold higher NAION risk among semaglutide initiators, while also noting that the absolute risk remained low.

NAION and related vision injuries may involve problems such as:

  • Sudden vision loss
  • Partial blindness
  • Permanent blind spots or visual field loss
  • Blurred or dim vision
  • Loss of vision in one eye
  • Lasting optic nerve damage

As a result of expanding scientific literature and growing number of claims, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation created a separate MDL for GLP-1 vision-loss lawsuits in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. An MDL is a court process that groups similar federal cases before one judge for coordinated pretrial proceedings. Unlike a class action, each plaintiff keeps an individual case and may recover compensation based on their own injuries and losses.

Which GLP-1 Drugs Are Involved?

The semaglutide drugs most commonly discussed in connection with NAION litigation are:

  • Ozempic
  • Wegovy
  • Rybelsus

Other GLP-1 drugs have also been named in broader vision-loss litigation, but the semaglutide products have received the most attention from regulators, researchers, and current lawsuits. Recent litigation updates have reported that the federal vision-loss MDL involves drugs including Ozempic, Wegovy, Saxenda, and Trulicity, though semaglutide remains central to the NAION discussion.

Do I Have a GLP-1 Vision Loss Case?

You may have a case worth reviewing if:

  • You used Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus, or another GLP-1 drug
  • You later developed sudden vision loss, blind spots, blurred vision, or a serious optic nerve condition
  • You were diagnosed with NAION or another serious vision-related injury
  • Your vision problems required emergency care, specialist treatment, or ongoing follow-up
  • You have medical records, prescription history, or ophthalmology findings linking the vision event to the period when you used the drug
  • Your loved one suffered severe or permanent vision loss after taking one of these medications

Not every eye complaint will support a lawsuit. The key questions are what drug you used, when the vision problem began, what diagnosis was made, and how serious the injury became. Our attorneys at Grewal Law PLLC can review your circumstances and discuss whether you may have grounds to pursue a claim.

What Are These Lawsuits Alleging?

These cases generally focus on whether manufacturers, including Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly, gave patients and prescribing doctors adequate warning about the risk of serious vision injury.

Depending on the facts, lawsuits may allege:

  • Failure to warn about the risk of NAION or sudden vision loss
  • Negligence in the development, safety monitoring, or marketing of the drug
  • Defective marketing or incomplete risk information
  • Other pharmaceutical product liability claims supported by the medical evidence and case history

This is an evolving area of litigation, but the basic concern is straightforward: people say they took these drugs, suffered severe eye injuries, and were not adequately warned about the risk beforehand.

Compensation in GLP-1 Vision Loss Lawsuits

If a claim is successful, compensation may include damages for:

  • Medical bills and specialist care
  • Future treatment and monitoring
  • Lost income and reduced earning capacity
  • Pain and suffering
  • Permanent vision impairment
  • Loss of independence or reduced quality of life
  • Wrongful death damages, where applicable

The value of a case depends on the harm it caused. Cases involving permanent vision loss, lasting functional impairment, or major medical and financial consequences are generally much more serious than claims involving temporary symptoms that resolved.

  • Examine medical records and ophthalmology findings
  • Evaluate whether the injury is consistent with current litigation allegations
